Skardu Tours & Travel Guide
Lakes, Balti heritage and mountain day trips: build a Skardu stay with room to explore and time to pause.

Getting to know Skardu
Skardu is a useful base for discovering Baltistan, with mountain scenery, lakes and heritage places that offer very different kinds of days. Resist the temptation to treat it as a checklist. A waterside afternoon, a walk through a settlement and a longer valley excursion can make a more rewarding holiday than a series of brief photo stops.
Lakes, heritage and open landscapes
Kachura and Satpara offer lake scenery, while Kharpocho Fort and the Manthal Buddha rock introduce different chapters of the area's heritage. Ask your coordinator to group visits geographically. Check walking surfaces and steps before choosing a fort visit for anyone with reduced mobility, and allow time to enjoy a place beyond its viewpoint.
A relaxed stay in the valley
For an illustrative four-night stay, keep arrival afternoon unplanned, choose a lake-focused day, spend another day around Shigar, and reserve the remaining day for local interests or a change of weather. This is a planning idea, not a fixed departure. Deosai needs its own access check and should not be squeezed into an already full day.
Choosing your base
A central stay can suit travellers who value nearby shops and meals; a quieter property can suit those seeking longer evenings outdoors. Ask about actual room configuration, heating, hot water, stairs and transfer distances. A scenic photograph does not tell you whether the accommodation works for your family.
Arrivals and onward journeys
Agree what happens if your arrival changes before you commit to tightly connected plans. Keep the day before a fixed onward connection flexible where possible. Share flight details, luggage size and any walking limitations so the vehicle and first day's programme can be planned sensibly.
Local encounters and considerate visits
Ask before photographing people, entering orchards or stepping into private courtyards. Choose a locally hosted meal or craft visit when it is genuinely available and welcomed by the host. Carry your litter out and refill drinking water through arrangements your accommodation recommends.
