Rush Lake & Nagar Trek | Skardu Adventures

Plan a ten-day Rush Lake trek from Gilgit through Hoper and Nagar, with supported pasture camps, an ascent rest day and a private group quote.

Representative northern Pakistan scenery; the route is described in the itinerary

Rush Lake sits high above Nagar's glacier valleys. Reaching it brings together changing ice, steep pasture trails and the quiet of remote camps, with broad views when the sky opens.

This ten-day Gilgit programme uses a paced ascent from Hoper, including a rest day before the lake objective. The return descends through Phai Phari and Hamdar, with the exact glacier crossings chosen by the local guide.

The lake is the objective. A Rush Peak ascent is outside this programme. Previous multi-day trekking experience is useful, and the lead guide must review your acclimatisation and the proposed camping profile before confirming dates.

10 days · Gilgit → Hoper → Rush Lake → Hunza → Gilgit

Day 1: Arrive in Gilgit

Meet the coordinator and review previous trekking experience, equipment and the glacier approach with the team.

Day 2: Drive to Hoper

Travel into Nagar and settle near the trailhead. Meet the local guide and take a relaxed village walk.

Day 3: Hoper to Bericho Kor

Begin the trek on the line chosen by the local glacier guide. Cross the current approach terrain and continue to the pasture camp.

Day 4: Climb towards Chidin Harai

Make a sustained uphill stage with regular breaks. The guide may choose an intermediate camp if the group needs a slower ascent.

Day 5: Rest and acclimatise

Keep a full day for recovery before the lake stage. Take only a short guided acclimatisation walk if appropriate.

Day 6: Trek to Rush Lake

Continue to the high lake and settle into camp. Enjoy the surroundings close to camp rather than adding a peak ascent.

Day 7: Descend to Phai Phari

Leave the lake and descend carefully through the mountain pastures. The guide checks the return line before continuing.

Day 8: Continue to Hamdar

Follow the assessed pasture and glacier route towards Hamdar. Crossing times depend on the current ice and surface conditions.

Day 9: Walk to Hoper and drive to Hunza

Complete the final walking stage, meet your vehicle and return to a guesthouse or hotel for the night.

Day 10: Return to Gilgit

Take the road back to Gilgit and finish at the agreed drop-off. Leave space for a delayed trek return before onward travel.

Not included

Share your trekking experience, travel dates, arrival plans and dietary needs when requesting a quote. Walking and driving times are approximate; allow for weather, trail changes and your group's pace. Confirm your equipment, baggage allowance, guide arrangements and emergency communication plan in writing. Private-group pricing, room/tent sharing and booking/cancellation terms are provided with your dated proposal. Start/end: Gilgit. The final day ends at a city drop-off; arrange extra nights and flights separately. This is a glacier trek, not an introductory valley walk. Share previous altitude experience with the lead guide. Rush Lake and Rush Peak are different objectives; no summit ascent is included.

Safety & guide arrangements

This mountain route needs an assessment of fitness, previous experience and acclimatisation. The guide may shorten stages or turn back for conditions or traveller wellbeing. Arrange activity-specific insurance covering the planned altitude and evacuation. The final proposal must identify the guide, communication equipment and emergency arrangements; coordination does not include rescue costs. Rush Lake is approximately 4,694 m, including the planned lake camp. The steep rise towards Chidin Harai and changing glacier crossings require an individual acclimatisation review; extra intermediate nights may be needed.
